SCUDERIA CAMERON GLICKENHAUS LAUNCHES CUSTOMER RACING PROGRAMME AT ZOLDER WITH A PODIUM FINISH
September 3, 2022
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) has this weekend launched its Customer Racing Programme and two journalists experienced what the team has to offer first-hand.
Rebecca Jackson a UK television presenter and racing driver and Autobild writer Guido Naumann competed in the DMV-GTC races alongside SCG factory driver Manuel Lauck who raced in the Dunlop 60.
SCG raced the most recently built SCG003C, which featured an all-new white exterior. In specification, it is identical to the example that recently completed the Nurburgring 24 Hours, where it showed class-winning pace as one of the fastest cars on track.
The Customer Racing Programme is a unique opportunity to race a SCG003C car with the same official “factory team” car setup and pro-level team assistance. In this one of a kind environment, amateur drivers can be part of a true LMP1-style experience: a pro car designed and set to race in the biggest endurance series, managed by the factory team, who are driven by a real passion for motorsport.
Rebecca Jackson said: “What an incredible opportunity to be able to race this amazing car, and it’s fantastic that SCG is offering anyone the chance to do so through their Customer Racing Programme. From the seat-fitting to learning about the track the team were so professional and friendly which made me feel very comfortable in this stunning race car. I would recommend joining the team at a race weekend to any ambitious gentleman driver as racing a car like this really is a thrill.”
Guido Naumann added: “I’ve driven a lot of sportscars but this SCG003C is something very special. It is fast, very fast, easy to drive and of course a lot of fun. I think the Customer Racing Programme is a really great initiative, which will allow those drivers looking for the next step in their amateur racing career to experience a car that is truly sensational to drive. The team delivers the highest level of detail from a technical and mechanical point of view, and are extremely quick at reacting and solving any unexpected issues. When my career as a journalist is over, I’ll certainly be joining the team again as a gentleman driver.”
This weekend SCG demonstrated how privateers can benefit from the same expertise and know-how that has gone into the official programme, thanks to a package of services that ranges from one-off race outings to a complete season with a full support structure. The Customer Racing Programme is managed by Traum Motorsport, the very same team that runs the official SCG cars, to exactly the same specification.
Guido and Rebecca qualified in 10th and 13th spot for races one and two respectively in the DMV-GTC and Manuel qualified fourth in the Dunlop 60. In the races today Guido and Rebecca finished 10th and 11th in the two DMV-GTC races and Manuel finished second in the Dunlop 60 race.
Paolo Garella, SCG programme director, said: “It’s been a really successful weekend for us. To finish second on the podium on a track we have never experienced before is a real testament to the reliability of the car, the team and our driver Manuel Lauck. The launch of the Customer Racing Programme was really positive, for two people to arrive and drive the car competitively round the circuit, with no prior experience of the car is great to see. Both Rebecca and Guido had a great weekend with us and we look forward to welcoming more driving enthusiasts to join us in the future.”
This programme is available now and the next opportunities for privateers to race will be the Nurburgring VLN Championship, Monza in the GT Open and Oschersleben in the DMV-GTC. Throughout the rest of this year, and into 2017, there will be racing opportunities within these championships as well as the 24 Hour Series and Gulf 12 hours.
